Gnomeo & Juliet

by Laresha Wehe

Romeo and Juliet, a play written by Shakespeare, involves a war between families, and a forbidden love.... well this movie is a little like that but it’s called Gnomeo and Juliet. This movie was a fantastic cartoon movie to sit down with the family and watch together. It had the perfect amount of comedy and just enough action and romance to keep you interested.  With the war between yard owners and a feud between lawn ornaments two opposite gnomes, one red and one blue, fall into a forbidden love. Soon problems between yards arise and the conflict between the ornaments gets more and more intense. The ornaments conflicts get so horrible that lawn ornaments brake. With families torn apart, a love destroyed, and lawns demolished, the owners and ornaments soon decide that the feud has went on to long and they soon join together.

In my opinion this movie is just like wars between gangs. I think the message within this movie is just that we should all get along and we should make peace. Love should never matter, whether it be the color of your skin, or how tall, short, fat, skinny, or ever what color your painted, or how tall your hat is, but love is love and it is to last forever. Love is to be with someone that you would do anything for, or someone that you could not see yourself without, someone you would die for.  Not someone that you are betrothed to by force because truly we could never love someone that we have to get married to. We should not be forced to love something, or someone, that is like us because everyone has their own type of person they are attracted to. In Gnomeo and Juliet, the message of risking one’s life for someone they love is a good example.  I give this movie 5 stars.
